From Málaga Airport to the City Centre: How to Get There and What to Do with Your Luggage

Guide to getting from Málaga Airport to the historic centre by train, bus or taxi, and the best option for storing your luggage while you explore the city.

Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport (AGP) is just 8 km from the historic city centre, making it one of the best-connected airports in Spain. This guide explains how to get to the centre comfortably and what to do with your luggage if your flight doesn’t line up with your hotel’s check-in or check-out.

Getting from the Airport to the City Centre

Cercanías Commuter Train (cheapest option)

The Cercanías C1 train connects the airport to Málaga city centre in around 12 minutes for just €1.80. The station is located at Terminal 3 of the arrivals hall.

The train takes you to Málaga-María Zambrano station (the main Renfe hub), from where the historic centre and Larios Street are about 15 minutes on foot or a short taxi ride.

Express Bus A

The express bus A covers the airport–city centre route in around 20–25 minutes, with stops at the Alameda Principal. It runs every 20 minutes or so and costs €3. A comfortable option if you have large suitcases.

Taxi

A taxi from the airport to the centre costs between €18 and €25 depending on traffic and your destination. The most direct option at any time of day, particularly recommended for late arrivals or heavy luggage.

What to Do with Your Luggage

Store it in a city-centre locker

The most convenient and secure option is to drop your luggage at a luggage storage in Málaga locker as soon as you arrive in the centre. Two locations in the heart of the historic quarter:

  • Calle Esparteros, 9 — steps from Larios Street
  • Calle Cañón, 7 — next to Málaga Cathedral

Lockers are open every day from 07:30 to 23:59 with a personal access code — no counter, no queues, no time restrictions. Book online in advance to guarantee availability.

Ask your hotel to store your bags

Some hotels allow luggage drop-off before check-in or after check-out, but this is not a guaranteed service. In peak season there is often a waiting list, and luggage is kept in a shared storage area without the security or privacy of a personal locker.

  1. Arrive by train or bus from the airport to the city centre.
  2. Drop your luggage at Lock & Store (no queues, personal access code).
  3. Explore the city hands-free: Alcazaba, Picasso Museum, harbour, Larios Street.
  4. Pick up your luggage before 23:59.
  5. Take the Cercanías train from María Zambrano back to the airport in 12 minutes.

With this plan you can arrive at 08:00, make the most of a full day and leave without rushing at 21:00. Check our places of interest guide to discover everything you can see near our lockers.
